I’m hanging out at Blizzcon this weekend checking out the action, both of the Hearthstone World Championship as well as the cool new stuff Blizzard has to offer. I’ve been playing Blizzard games on and off since the original Warcraft, including a long stint as a hardcore WoW player – as well as head developer of the original paper WoW TCG – so it’s pretty fun to have chance to check everything out.
I’ll be posting picture and other updates from the event here throughout the weekend
I spoke with Ben Brode at some length about Blizzard’s plans for Hearthstone, including the upcoming expansion and their thoughts on possible tournament formats. He said that Goblins vs. Gnomes isn’t nearly as heavily random as the demo decks at the show might suggest – they just used the random cards because they’re wacky and fun for that kind of play experience. It’s not clear that we should expect to see expansions at this pace in the future – they’re still working out what the best pace of content release ought to be. They’re also looking into possible different tournament formats from Last Hero Standing that are more similar to the ladder experience.
All in all, some good stuff!
